Amorim Left ‘Angry and Frustrated’ After West Ham’s Late Equalizer
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim expressed his frustration after Soungoutou Magassa’s 83rd-minute equalizer denied his team victory against West Ham at Old Trafford on Thursday. The Portuguese coach watched his side surrender a lead through Diogo Dalot, with defensive lapses allowing the Hammers to secure an unexpected point in their fight against relegation.
Magassa struck his first goal for West Ham after Jarrod Bowen’s flick-on from Andy Irving’s corner was cleared off the line by Noussair Mazraoui. The ball fell perfectly to the midfielder, who drove home the equalizer to stun the home crowd and leave United questioning their defensive solidity once again.
The goal originated from two critical errors that highlighted United’s ongoing inconsistencies. Leny Yoro, introduced as a substitute after being dropped from the starting lineup, missed a crucial clearing header. Bruno Fernandes then failed to mark Bowen at the corner, allowing the 5ft 9in forward to create the decisive moment despite his modest aerial presence.
Amorim’s disappointment was evident as he described feeling “angry and frustrated” with his team’s inability to maintain control. The manager emphasized that United had the game under control before switching off at the crucial moment, dropping two valuable points in their pursuit of European qualification through a potential fifth-place finish.
The result leaves United with 21 points from 14 games, just two points behind fifth place in the Premier League table. West Ham, sitting in 18th position with 12 points, earned a vital point in their battle to avoid relegation, becoming one of the few teams to potentially survive with such a low points tally at this stage.
